Fight On San Francisco MUNI Bus | Latest Viral YouTube Video

October 8th, 2009 by Will Leave a reply »

Well first things first, apologies for the lack of updates.

But let us get things brewing again with some viral video and what many have claimed to be racial tension on the much beloved San Francisco MUNI. The following video literally just hit YouTube, and from it, you get a front row shot to some good ol’  fisticuffs between two riders.

Now, my Cantonese isn’t strong enough to decipher everything the Asian lady was shouting in her heavy Chinese dialect that’s close to Cantonese (Probably Taishan) . But here’s what I could pick up:

  • The MUNI is a line that goes through San Francisco Chinatown, ergo the bus full of Asians
  • Either the Asian lady was taking up two seats with her groceries or the Black lady was taking up two seats with her purse [EDIT: Open to both possibilities. A number of commenters have translated and say the Asian lady is claiming the former; the video doesn't capture anything prior to the argument]
  • Then, either the Asian lady moved the Black lady’s purse to sit down or vice versa with the groceries
  • From there, all hell breaks loose

From where the video starts, it looks like the black woman started the argument. There’s not enough video for us to really know who and how it started, but one thing I must say, the Asian lady’s broad vocabulary that is exclusives to the phrases “Fuck you” and “You are stupid” clearly escalated the conflict.

Was this fight initiated due to some sort of Bay-Area-Black-Asian racial tension?

Probably not.

[Edit: Took my personal opinion, that were biased against the Asian lady, out. It's been brewing some very ignorant comments from other Asian-Americans reading this blog.]

Hilariously entertaining video, but nothing racial behind it for me to dissect here on Chinese or Japanese?

Awesome video, love the way this is causing so much tension. I just feel the uneasiness in some of you folks out there. I want to say I don’t really care what people think of what I’m going to say but these are my opinions. First off, stop provoking racism by using the n* word, but the same goes to using the other n word (niggah, nigga, blah blah). Why use it? Just shows how ‘ghetto’ people are. Yes, I shame myself for using it as well :) .
All those people who say there was no need to fight and both were animals for fighting. STFU! There are reasons to fighting and be it the Chinese lady provoked by saying, “You are stupid, or Fuck You”, or the black lady saying the mentioned statements other commenters posted, it all comes down to the fault of the black lady! Sue that bitch! (Note, I did not say black bitch, you racist fuckers). So the Chinese lady had to whoop the black lady’s ass. There was a man in the background where you could hear him say, “Hit her, hit her” in Cantonese. As for the ABC chick, she’s more of a disgrace trying to act civilized by saying, “stop fighting, and so immature” STFU! People like her are annoying. If she wanted to do something about it, she would have stepped up her ass up and prevented it from even starting.
I don’t know what the bus driver was doing though, but surely he didn’t do enough. I don’t know where I’m going with this but man, my final thoughts are…
If people don’t need two seats, why the fuck take up two when you can let someone else sit down. It’s obvious it’s call common courtesy. We have enough problems with FAT people suing airlines already because they aren’t willing to fucking exercise. ( oh yeah, you people must remember that as well. Don’t blame that shit on diabeties and genetics you lazy fucks) Jesus, I swear I wish I was never an American Citizen sometimes!

Has the black woman been arrested yet for assault. Everybody seems to be calling this a fight. In reality this is clearly a case of a woman defending herself in self defence.

  3. An angry black woman, possessed with all the usual smoke, funk, wind and noise, that have come to symbolize the national angry black woman epidemic, ran smack dab into her new world order. Her bluff was called, and she had no fire to back up her feeble thunder that day on that bus, when she ran into an Asian typhoon—a Chinese soul sister, from some rural Chinese province, hardened from sun up to sun down labor in the crop fields or sweat shop factories in the land of Mao.

Ming-Tank Sue of the Chan Woo School of Whup Ass ate Miss Section 8’s ass for lunch—and was going to stuff the rest of the black chop suey into a angry black woman doggie bag, had not she been stopped from getting at her angry black woman leftovers. This black female fool met more than her match. She must have had no idea, when she first stepped on that bus, that she would be taking a journey through the Twilight Zone and bus ride through Hell. Here she was, surrounded by a bus full of Chinese, thinking that she was going to assert her angry black woman privilege and run her motor-mouth threats unchecked. This flip mouth dim wit must have known instantly that she was in a world of trouble when her feeble sucker punch bounced off of Sue’s head — and Sue did not blink. Sue didn’t cower. The Boxer Rebellion was on!

Ming-Tank Sue fired into gear and rolled her big black ass, like a Sherman tank, right over baby-momma drama like she wasn’t even there — all her wolf tickets fell out on the floor as her bluster and bombast melted into an image of stark fear as Ming-Tank Sue slapped the eagle claw grip on her ass. It must have flashed across the ABW’s mind, at the moment the fear and head wuppin set in, that she was the lone ink spot, surrounded by a sea of yellow kung fu fighters, that she was about to meet her maker at the hands of a one woman human wave attack.

This is a rough transcript of the YouTube video showing the fight between a Taishanese woman and a black lady on MUNI: http://yingma.org/2010/01/03/chinese-woman-beats-black-lady-on-sf-muni/. It includes, to the extent possible, a full translation of all the Chinese uttered in the video. So far, quite a few viewers of the video, the local media and MUNI officials have condemned the fight. Many of them, however, do not appear to understand Chinese and hence do not appear to have understood what in fact transpired. For those who actually care about the facts, they can now read the transcript and draw their own conclusions.

The Origin of BAYTAC according to Emanuel Andreas, President

On April 7th, 2009, at around 3: 33 PM, I attended SFMTA’s monthly Board meeting and made a public comment, in which I opposed SF Muni giving SFPD $19 million for security they did not provide. The next day, I was told by the dispatcher on duty that I was being placed on non-driving status. I knew that this was management’s retaliation to my public comment, because I was given no reason as to why I was pulled from driving.

On April 10th 2009, I came to work with my laptop and established a small corner office at the Potrero Division lunch room. While I was writing my letters, many operators came and asked my advice for rule violations they received from the management. I helped some of them and I felt that it was almost impossible for one person to solve every problem. In addition, I received many phone calls on my cell phone from other operators in other divisions, asking for my help. Because of these calls, I dedcided to form an organization. I began consulting my good friends and retired Transit Operators, John and Ellen Murray.

I would like to thank Victor Gryson, operator, from Green Division for our fruitful discussion. In addition, I would like to recognize Dr. Collins and my classmates from both the Computer Repair and Electronics courses, at the Southeast Campus of City College of San Francisco, for their encouragement and support, in helping me shaping my thoughts in setting up this progressive organization, Bay Area Transportation Advisory Commission, or B.A.Y.T.A.C. I would also like to thank Dr. Veronica Hunnicutt, Dean of the Southeast Campus for giving me permission to use the conference room at Sourtheast Campus, as a meeting place to further our cause. Last, but absolutely not least, I would like to thank Mr. Al Yates, Vice-President of the Southeast Campus Student Association, for his support and dedication to our organization. With the help of these generous and wonderful individuals, I know that I can stand up to the SFMTA.

For management to put me under house division arrest without any reason shows the impact I have made and continue to make on the operators. This organization and the services it is providing will make it easier for operators who are experiencing undue penalties and discipline to fight back. Many of our operators do not know how to fight back for many reasons, some which include: lack of information, lack of resources, and fearing the loss of their jobs, just to name a few. B.A.Y.T.A.C. will serve as an instrumental organization in trying to right the wrongs inflicted by managerment.
